Schaubek Album Bought On Ebay

Hello, I bought a Schaubek WW album on ebay.
The description was something like "WW Schaubek album with 3.000 stamps from nineteen century to 1962".
Ok, I bid, and I won.
I received the album, it was true, 3.000 stamps WW from nineteen century to 1962.
But.
The stamps was hinged on spaces that had nothing to do with the spaces. Only the country was right.
Simply the seller had hinged 3.000 stamps on 3.000 spaces of similar size.
It is clear that most of the stamps had been recently hinged (the hinge is so clean), and only a very small number of the stamps fit with the album space.
Moreover, the photos shown on ebay was only the ones in which the stamps fitted with the album.
What do you think?

I inherited my wife's grandmother's WW stamp album. Most of the stamps were sorted into the correct country, but often she would place the stamps wherever they fit. I would frequently find a stamp hinged on one page, while the spot (picture) for the stamp was on the next page. I am shocked every time I see this, but I realize that, while she liked to collect stamps, she did not care for the minutia of figuring out watermarks, perforations, or even dates. She was not nearly as OCD as I am. She had a lovely Liberty Series collection where the stamps were sent to her mounted in mounts attached to envelopes and placed into sleeves in a binder with an informational card. This was her style of collecting.

I don't know why the hinges in your purchase would all be clean, but I know some people collect in a haphazard way. Were you intending to use the album as is and add to it? If you are unhappy, does the seller accept returns?

You got what you paid for a album and 3,000 stamps .

If the photos do not match the album file a claim. If the photos match what you received there is no issue.

I agree with Rogdcam. What you see is what you get. Unfortunately, we just assume that stamps have been mounted in the right spaces.

I've come across numerous albums where the collector did exactly that. Your album isn't that unusual. I've seen listings on ebay where the seller includes a disclaimer about the accuracy of the collection. Did the ebay listing include any such disclaimer?

It is not a matter about accuracy on watermarks, or varieties.
Or a mistake of the original collector.
The seller simply filled the album with stamps that have nothing to do with the space, and sold it as a Schaubek instead of selling kiloware.
Not fair in my opinion.

lgrodri- My take exactly. The seller faked a 'collection' in order to move out this album. Seems like a lot of time wasting for little return but that's how it sounds to me. I wonder if the OP has communicated his displeasure s yet to the seller?

I would return it at my cost if unhappy in this particular case.

OK, you bought a Shaubek album with with stamps. You received exactly what the seller described. Unfortunately, it was not what you expected. Lesson learned ... don't read more into the description than the seller says. From my point of view, it's yours without recourse.

The second link didn't work for me. The first link shows stamps in the proper place which is at odds with the description in the original post.

On a related note, it is common for sellers to cherry-pick collections then replace some of the pickings with faulty seconds or commons. Some will tell you the pages are more valuable than the stamps, as they help sell the dream of an old find. Some sellers reuse the old pages over and over.

Most sellers would not waste their time hinging thousands of stamps to old pages, so here it is probably just a hobbyist mounting their kiloware.

It is important to know that very few collections on the market are unpicked.

Reminds me of the heady days when stamp collecting was something most people did in the way they enjoyed to do it.

Now us collectors are becoming more and more the specialist collectors in all sorts of areas. This SCF forum we share teaches us so much compared to the hobby as we know it from the past. We share our knowledge and just keep growing in this great hobby of ours.Could not think of a better place to do than here on SCF.
