Hello everyone! I am a stamp newbie. I inherited a ton of stamps and am excited to learn more about them. There were many stamps though, that were not mounted correctly. They were just scotch taped to some sort of paper, with the tape going over the top of the entire stamp.

Would those stamps, even if otherwise rare or valuable, be worthless because of the tape? Some of the tape is not discolored but has been on for many many years. I am afraid to attempt to remove it. I appreciate any information or ideas on the subject before I proceed. Thank you!

Scotch taped stamps were Scotch taped because they were common. Now they are common Scotch taped stamps. Who needs pics.

Opinion.
abandon all hope, unless a fabulously expensive stamp, there is very little chance of going back.

Yes, they are done. Over time, the adhesive material liquified and then crystallized in the paper.

You might salvage one out of twenty. It is just not worth the effort. If they are unused US stamps, you might be able to use them as postage.
