Following on from my queries late last year (A Visit To Salop Stamps https://goscf.com/t/64957) I've managed to get a full set of the British County Catalogues together.

While I was at it, I bought the forerunner, The Postal History of Great Britain & Ireland (1st edition), as well as England's Postal History and also Postal Markings of Scotland to 1840 (1st edition).

For volumes 1 and 2 I bought the revised edition (both volumes combined) and for volumes 3 to 5 I bought the originals.

A second edition of volume 3 was done in 2005 (I think) but the nuts and bolts of the revised edition are available in the LPHG bulletins 147, 154, 157-159 & 161 at http://www.gbps.org.uk/information/...notebook.php. What you won't get is the Receiving House information but if you're collecting these handstamps then Hugh Feldman's 2 volume magnum opus is essential.

A Midlands edition of the County Catalogue was published in 2013 by the Midlands Postal History Society (No. 6 on the list here: http://www.midlandphs.org.uk/pages/...cations.html).

The Lincolnshire Postal History website has done an update for their county. It is available at http://www.lincspostalhistory.co.uk...30.07.16.pdf.

If you are collecting pre adhesive handstamps/postal markings from England, Wales or Scotland these books provide not only a good listing of the handstamps but some excellent postal history information also.

Luck and patience!

I would say at auction they're about £15-£20 each on average, plus shipping. They are A5 in size so postage is about £8 untracked from the UK.

Volumes 1, 2 and 4 are currently being auctioned on ebay.

Happy to be the new "go to" man for this area. I'm almost as enamoured with GB postal history as I am with New South Wales

A set of the five county catalogues in four volumes went for £28 plus 18% BP at the weekend. See lot 198.
