I have inherited close to 100 of these covers and wonder if there is any interest in them. Here are a couple of examples. Thanks for your comments.

Normally, FDC bear the whole of the set, which is not the case of the covers shown above. Anyway, they're of very little interest for most collectors. I'm sorry. |

Thank you very much. That's what I wanted to know...I will be donating them to the local stamp club. |

I live very near McKinleyville. Still not interested. The President McKinley statue which was featured in the center of Arcata, next to McKinleyville, was recently removed for politically correct (Native American) reasons. The statue was sent to his home in Ohio where it is wanted. |

The in-laws lived in McKinleyville for a number of years, moving to Arizona in 1993. It seemed to be leaning in that direction even then. They received these covers over a number of years for supporting a missionary in the UK. I guess he didn't know the protocol of including the whole set on the FDC. |

I wonder why the Royal Post chose Birmingham to be the city of cancellation for the College of Arms since the College of Arms is a part of the Queen's household and is located in London? It is not because of the second stamp that features the arms of the head of the College of Arms who is the Earl Marshal - the Marshal of the UK - since his lands span the counties of Sussex and Norfolk while Birmingham is in West Midlands County. |

One other factor that makes these examples less desirable due to there being few collectors and far too many examples of these in the market is these are addressed. |

Hi Kimo,
I think these covers have a Birmingham postmark just because it was the local post office for the sender.
There were two special pictorial FDC postmarks for each of these sets.
The College of Arms set had special postmarks from Edinburgh and London.
The Safety at Sea set had special postmarks from Edinburgh and Eastbourne.
The 1991 Christmas set had special postmarks from Edinburgh and Bethlehem in Wales.
All these Edinburgh postmarks were for the British Philatelic Bureau.
The Christmas cover is not strictly an FDC as the set was issued on 12th November and this is cancelled 20th November and has a regular Birmingham postmark.
A lot of collectors look down on FDCs as there are so many available here in the UK but many are really nice to look at.
I really like the design of the Safety at Sea cover here with the waves crashing against the lighthouse.

Nigel - agreed. And in a moment of weakness, I've just bought several thousand French ones!
Just need Rod to "spot the lighthouse" now. |
