Question 1:

According to Scott there were three issues circa 1884 that were never placed into circulation. Don't know if these issues had a name, but the set includes 25, 50, and 100 mon values.

According to Scott, counterfeits exist. What are the common spotting tips between genuine and counterfeit issues?

Question 2:

Scott 966 (A502). Review of multiple copies reveals a number of shade varieties. However, Scott assigns a single issue number. Do other catalogues address this issue differently?

TIA.

This is an image of the 3 "Moon" unissued stamps printed probably Feb. 1885

As for forgeries, they are numerous and made by Kamigata and possibly Wada in Japan
The forgeries are duller, different perforation, generally not well centered, and usually have a 5 ring fake cancel not used in Korea.
Most used early Korea stamps are fakes.
Later I will post samples - I have about 2 dozen

Thank you both for your responses. The depth of knowledge provided by SCF members continues to impress.

Perf 12: Scanned through the link you provided. Wow. Looks to be the definitive discussion of the topic. Much to learn.

SForgCa: Thank you for posting the three "Moon" issues. Those are the stamps to which I was referring. My examples are also uncirculated (not cancelled).
