Ok Im thinking this thread is coming to the end, and the more I think about this stamp , makes me wonder what kind of business tells you they have this product but I don't know what to call it.
There for I don't have a price I can't sell it there fore its like it doesn't exist.
So I think Scott's catalog needs to make a new category telling this stamp cannot be certified because it cannot be determined if it has a watermark or not in some instance's.Mybe a statement would be nice also saying so and telling you why and maybe a price.
If you cant be recognized with a UN watermarked stamp with a proof of another existing stamp on the same sheet ,there is something not right here.
We wait until the future new tech will disclose what they are.

Yes - this thread is coming to an end. Because there's not much left to say. To be sure & make yourself happy, you would need to send it in for a cert. We can tell you that with 99.99% probability, it will come back as a SL watermarked #439.

There is no price for a used 476A - because - to date - there are no used copies of 476A. Check out this link - and especially the description at the end of the 1st stamp:

You'll see that Siegel has 93 entries for 476A - and none of them are used!

You're talking about one of the rarest - and most controversial - of all US stamps.

The stamp can certainly be certified - as many others have been. Detecting watermarks - especially on orange or yellow stamps - is a challenge. One needs advanced technology, which most of us do not possess.

Scott has no fault here. Once a used copy is certified & sold, Scott will list a used price.

In the meantime, I'd suggest a couple things. Give it a few days & then look at the stamp again. You're holding it - and pictures online are inadequate compared to having the stamp in hand. Try getting a high-res scan of the stamp in fluid. And then, maybe run the scan through retro-reveal & see if anything appears. If you're still convinced at that point, send it off for a cert. Just don't forget to come back & tell is what happened!

It is very interesting to see all the craziness and theory's because of this idea of no watermark
or a watermark its to bad someone doesn't come up with a better way to detect these stamps if not by the visual or maybe a dating system , like they do with dinosaurs bone's , something with more preciseness .Also maybe if somehow the paper of the watermark paper maybe different than the
unwatermarked paper maybe some chemical or trace element which would make it different.

Send it in for certification. Ask that it be identified. The worst that will happen is that you will certify a low value stamp but at least you will know and so will the certification knowledge base and this community what Scott number your stamp is. It won't hurt whereas you don't know and I can see some markings on your perforations but that might not convince you that your stamp has a watermark. They might even be able to show you where the watermark is. It could be off the perfs.
