I've accumulated some interesting fancies over the years but this is a favorite. I don't know anything about it, however. Does anyone know where this top hat with skull and crossbones originated? I assume the initials are those of a postmaster.
The cancel appears to be a mirror image of a the Andrew Johnson tombstone cancel used in Waterbury CT in 1868-69. I'm not aware of mirror image copy being used anywhere in the 1890s (based on the stamp), so I would assume it is a fake cancel unless you can find evidence that it was legitimately used somewhere.
