Does any Forum "member" have experience with the RMPL?
My understanding is RMPL is a privately-funded, public library. As such, access to the holdings is available to the general public.
Have sent a few emails (via RMPL website). And made several call attempts. (Only to get a call screening msg.)
Is my experience an anomoly?
What is the preferred method of communicating with the librarian? (Sheri Jennings?)
Thanks in advance.

There are several good and useful references on this forum. I suggest you try the "search" function

If your are not getting a response to rmpl@qwestoffice.net why not try a phone call (303) 759-9921. Open hours are 10:00 am to 4:00 pm (Mountain Time), daily except closed on Sunday and holidays and 2:00m to 8:00 pm on Thursdays. . |

I've been a member of RMPL for 10 years; mailed the check today to renew for year #11.
Ms. Jennings just started as the librarian a few months ago and, I think, has another "day job" in addition to her RMPL work. It is an all-volunteer operation and you may have hit a time or two when no one was available to take the call. I visit occasionally, since I'm local, but not planning as of now to be there again until July 18.
I assume you went on line to determine if they have the catalog you're looking for?

I'm a long-time member of the Northwest Philatelic Library ( http://www.nwpl.org/) and had a chance to visit the RMPL a couple years ago. Excellent organization and probably the largest and most active philatelic library in the West. I was very impressed. |

Climber Steve...
Thx for sharing some background re the RMPL. Will try calling again later this week.
Yes, went online to assess the library's holdings.
The aspect I found oddest of all was the phone msg indicating the library does not accept unscreened calls.
Oh well.

I had a similar experience three or so years ago trying to contact the RMPL. I finally just gave up.
These groups rely on volunteer help and are usually chronically short handed. Not sure what to suggest, |

We do not know how long the OP is saying it took in his attempts to elicit a reply. In my case I reached the point of giving up after six months or so. I cannot speak for everyone but that seems excessive and indicative of dysfunction. |

Am writing to share some good news re my original posting.
Made another call attempt to the RMPL. This time someone answered. Was transferred to the librarian. Who stated the RMPL does not have email!
Fortunately, the librarian passed the phone to a volunteer who was aware of my earlier (email) queries. And spent the next 10 mins (on the phone) with me reviewing some photocopied material he had found on one of the library's shelves.
At the conclusion of our conversation, this volunteer offered to scan the pages he had found, and email them to me at no-charge.
After hearing this generous offer I advised that I would be mailing a 25-dollar donation check to the RMPL as a token of my appreciation. Sometime last night received an email with scans of several pages thanks to the kindness of a second RMPL volunteer.

I am glad it worked out. So the Librarian did realize they used email or just not from you? |

Sergio sent this in an email to the Philatelic Librarian Roundtable Group last month Quote: RMPL (Rocky Mountain Philatelic Library; Denver, Colorado): The most important event at the RMPL this quarter is the hiring of a new librarian. Sherri Soracci-Jennings accepted our job offer at the end of April and immediately began working hard to catch up with the backlog of cataloging and other work that had accumulated due to Ellengail Beuthel's illness. Sherri is our first new librarian since Ellengail officially began in 1993, when the library opened. Now, at the age of 90 and with increasing health problems, she has decided to retire. Ellengail's contribution to the RMPL cannot be overstated. Her tireless efforts to improve the library catalog and collections have been a major factor in the development of our current national and international prominence. Sherri has been involved in Colorado philately for years. She is a Colorado native and has lived here most of her life. She has been a stamp collector for over 50 years. Her collecting interests include U.S., Canada, France, Greece, Cyprus, Rwanda, and various topical subjects Her husband, Van, is also a topical collector. Sherri has big shoes to fill but we believe that she is quite capable of continuing and advancing Ellengail's legacy. There is more information about our librarians in the March-April 2019 issue of Scribblings, the award winning RMPL newsletter. The email was covered to Sherri at an AOL email account, so she has email capability. Don |
