Help appreciated to read this cancel. It's probably a TPO strike, but I can't be sure.

Hi jimjamtwo, I can only make out a W in the cancel but despite having a few guesses at the other letters I just can't find a match sorry.

Can see end of word RAW.

Word starts with 2 letters with an B O or D look to them

Before R is a L or J

The first stamp image to appear at right, "The town is now Yarram."
A possible, and Good Luck.

It really does look like 2 separate names or part names for whatever place it comes from.

First 3 letters are GPO

A Queensland Postmark with a "W" (the only recognisable letter)
You have a choice of 576.

There can only be 1 letter after "W"
Giving you 44 choices
None of which look to fit

Rather than a W in the second half of the top section, perhaps a "V", thus reading "& RAVNS" or something like that for an abbreviated Ravenswood as the last half of a rail cancel.

JimJamTwo,

It looks likely to be a TPO as you first suggested, similar to this one but with slightly different positioning of some characteristics:

There also seems to be some displacment between the circles on and off the stamp (especially the character prior to the 'W' on the stamp), so it may even be a composite attempt to create a full strike, though that would seem unlikely given the poor quality and it not being found on cover.
If you email Toowoomba stamp club here:https://www.toowoombastampclub.org/contact.htm, they will be able to put you in touch with Terry Dell, co-author of the book on Queensland steel datestamps which is downloadable from their site.

I was frustrated at the curve at the top of the letter after "W"

Thanks for the help, everyone. I think fairdinkumstamps is correct.

I bought Dell & Price on CD ROM a few years ago now and find it invaluable. Is this an updated edition?

I tried to contact Mr. Dell about a different matter the other day but he hasn't replied as yet.

"Dell and Rice"
Should it be Dell and Cowan?

Update:
Found it.

The first CD-ROM was Dell & Cowan, then a year or two later another version came out that was credited to Dell & Price.
