I am sure the color guide has some use and value but it is fair to wonder how good such guides really are when you have stamps such as the bright OB example apparently coming from Plate 0 when that particular shade is specific to only Plate 1E stamps...

I wish I had real science to report. Repeating conventional wisdom is not necessarily good either. As an example, I have gone away from supposed archival quality plastic sleeves (marketed by SAFE) and store sensitive material in glassines. It is working for now and is far better than the plastic sleeves, at least in the short term. I would like to try the sleeves made by Atlantic Protective Pouches but haven't done so yet.

With respect to glassines, it seems like it is hard to get good glassines nowadays too :(

Westvaco made the high quality glassines in their Enfield CT plant for decades but stopped years ago because it was no lomger financially viable and the machinery was seriously aging.
