I am no expert on post 1940 stamps and covers...Here is a "day of issue" cover in 1987 celebrating 50 years of Air Canada.

Two questions..
Is the signature of the president legitimate..??
See pictures below.

Robert

Second question..Did Air Canada jets in 1987 NOT have engines...haha.

It depends on what you consider legitimate. It's not in his own hand, but signature reproductions can be legal on documents like cheques. It is too smooth and even here, therefore is likely printed. There is a machine called an Autopen that creates signature reproductions, but I seriously doubt that it was used here.

EDIT: A tie reply with Ikey Pikey! We deserve a prize...

Letter looks like a souvenir/party favor for attendees at a corporate or organizational event. High magnification should tell you whether or not the signature was applied with an ink pen.

...That observation is what I will disprove hy-brasil

bookbndrbob..Thanks for the comment which made me search further...Thanks buddy.

It is difficult to prove/disprove if it is an authentic signature or not...Here is what my analysis came up with.

Under magnification there are dots usually not associated with standard ink pad and stamp...see below.

Next is a close up of part of the signature which shows irregular line width which may indicate pen/marker pressure as shown below..

Now here is the stickler that made me believe the signature was hand written...Thee is an overlap on the signature which will cause a darkening of the ink/pen/marker colour...see below.

CONCLUSION: I would say it probably was hand written by the president...Next question, did he on this 50th anniversary sign 10. 100. 1000. 10,000...Not likley any more than 100..

I tend to agree with you John...I just cant understand why the ink darkens only where the signature overlaps itself....
But, maybe I am wrong..I will accept "" 100% press-printed.""
