If you are saying this is a Scott 83, "D" grill I must ask where is the grill? A "D" grill is large enough that it should appear in your scan. A stitch watermark normally show as a series of irregular vertical thin closely spaced lines. It would be quite uncommon on a grilled stamp.

Second thought - You might want to note what country the stamp is from and what catalogue you are using to identify the stamp.

Bill:
Canada #83

Doesn't look like a stitch watermark to me. Looks more like some wrinkles.
"Stitches" often appear tighter together and thinner than the waves on your stamp.
Have you dipped it in watermark fluid?

Elagabale, to get the best quality responses, one must supply the fullest of information. I would suggest a hi-resolution scan of the entire front and a second scan of the entire back. Then, any additional scans to show the detail you are asking about.

If you want to show paper details, then I also would suggest either a highly-contrasted scan or a scan of your stamp in fluid.

A black background would help also.

All that said, all I see are two vertical rows of dimpled bumps inside the right edge like your stamp was pressed up against the perforations of other stamps when drying, leaving impressions of the holes.

Per chipg, watermark fluid will show if it is a stitch watermark or not.
