Hi manosp,

I believe this is an 1875 one piastre proportional fees impressed duty stamp with the tughra of Abdul Aziz.

The face value is at the top.

I believe this applied to transactions of between 1,000 and 2,000 piastres as shown at the sides of the stamp.

Thanks Nigelc !
To tell you the truth I thought it was later than 1875 proportional fee (also the tughra misunderstand me !) Do you have any idea for the seal down right ? I checked some greek sites but cant find it anywhere !

]Abdul Hamid II (1 Kuru)I believe. The document is rare. The embossed seal is a Type 3
(enclosure star & Crescent) it dates from 1850-1860.
There are 3 types ;rectangular embossed, circular embossed without enclosure, circular embossed star & Crescent enclosed(yours).
The good news is that they are from Cyprus,so rare…
(The early official documents had to be written on pre embossed paper which was delivered
from Constantinople)

Hi manosp and Perf12,

I think this tughra needs a close look.

The second element on the right is a floral pattern rather than the name "al-Ghazi" which forms part of Abdulhamid's tughra.

I still think this is the tughra of Abdul Aziz as per McDonald.

nigelc; Yes _Sultan Abdülaziz (1830-1876); that would fit in perfect with the embossed seals used under Sultan Abdulaziz .The seals were discontinued from use late 1860's early 1870.Few examples to date.

Cyprus is Greek ! First settled by the Mycenaean Greeks in 2000 Bc!The Ottomans just implanted themselves by conquest there as an Ottoman colony 3000 years later.
Anyway;for all this info on Cyprus revenue stamps below:(good reading)(upload time a few minutes)

Hi perf12,

Thanks very much for posting this link. This article looks fascinating. I shall read it carefully.

I was intrigued to see that the author appears to have mistaken the decoration in the Abdul Aziz tughra to be the name "al-Ghazi".

I've not spent any time on Cyprus philately so this should be a very useful reference.

Hi Manosp,

I can't read any of the text on your document but I also don't see any reason why this should have come specifically from Cyprus (or even from mainland Greece).

Do the Greek letters on the seal suggest anything to you, "Staori" or perhaps more likely, "Sta ori"?

Is it a name or a motto?

I think manosp's the document must come from a Greek Island (Mainland?) Crete? (Greek cachet 1869)
Well;while untill we find out for sure here is a document with a Type 2 embossed seal.
