What Is The Best Way To Sell An Inherited Stamp Collection

I need help! My father began his stamp collecting when he was 10 in 1955 and continued until his death in 2003. He was a well educated collector, he subscribed to Linn's, updated all his Scott catalogs, and keep his stamps in excellent condition. I have decided to finally part with most of the collection, only continuing the US and UK collection. I have stamps on pages, in sleeves, un-sleeved, mint, used, hinged,not hinged and loose. I have organized all the stamps by country. I have sold some of his collection but am finding it challenging and the reviews of large companies buying stamps aren't great. I know I'm not going to make a mint, I don't have any exotics, but I also don't want myself (and my dad) robbed. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

The standard advise given is to locate a local stamp club (not a shop, but a club) and stop by to ask their opinions. Don't take the first offer, of course, but just listen. They may advise contacting a good dealer that will give you a reasonable offer. They may advise just joining the club and learning more. You didn't mention whether he left an inventory with prices paid or estimated value. Those are always good starting points.

Good luck, and post some pictures of what you feel are the better ones. We will give you our opinion.

dealers don't usual give you much value. local stamp clubs might help. if the items are very valuable you might send them to an auction house. the other alternative is ebay.
