I'm interested in learning about early (19th century) Great Britain stamps. What Stanley Gibbons catalog is most appropriate? Where is the best place to get a year-old copy?

Secondary question: I'm also interested in the Scott Classic Specialized Catalog. Does that cover early US as well as the US Specialized?

Opinion:
Stanley Gibbons Stamp Catalogue (Part 1 and 2) British Commonwealth.
Hard Bound A3 format.
I have 1993 edition, and is my main reference.
Other GB members may wish to advise if it is still available like this.
In Australia, can pick up at Stamp Clubs for a song, but in the US?

Here is my "Concise" in my opinion inferior, yet is has better regards for machins, booklets etc & etc ( not "commonwealth" either)
CV around $50

If you're only interested in 19th century issues, the Gibbons Specialised Queen Victoria is more than adequate without going too indepth!

As Bobby says, the QV Specialised would be the one to go for, although I shouldn't like to see an in-depth one if it isn't. There are usually quite a few from UK-based sellers on ebay. They also pop up in the "literature" sections of auctions, but auction house postage to the US would probably be nasty.

Amazon would be another venue.

Philazilla, if you are asking about the US-only Scott specialized, it does cover just about everything you can imagine regarding US only. I've learned tons from that one book about my US collection and the box full of "what the heck is this?" that my dad handed me.

If I am misunderstanding your question, apologies.

If you want one; have a 2012 that you can have.

Scott Classic 2016 has 27 pages of the US regular issues up to 1940.
Scott US Specialized 2014 has 87 pages in the same time frame.

Thanks for the help. . .I think I'll check out the Part 1 and 2 British commonwealth. Though my interest right now is learning more about QV/19th century, it might be nice to have the reference in case I want to learn more. I am very familiar with the Scott US Specialized. . .it is just that there are hundreds of pages of modern stamps that are not interesting to me. I'm more interested in classic stamps from other countries than I am in modern US stamps.

This is the standard of detail you can expect with these large tomes... (1993 editions)
