Hi Aussie Al nice to hear from you. It is the biggest lot of 1s4d blues I have seen as well. There are 100 stamps at $2 each. I am in shock that I won this lot at that price. I have missed out on so many of these lots at auction in the past. Question Aussie Al: And for anybody else as well. What would your starting price on an ebay auction for a block of 20 KGV 11/2d red SMwmk comb perf 14. In Fine Used condition be? |

KGV Collector, a question: what is the deepest scarlet (not carmine) shade known on 1d red KGVs? I have an example (aniline ink) which is darker than anything I've ever seen or that appears to be listed in the ACSC. It's an issue because it has an inverted watermark. I figure that if it's a very rare shade, this could make it a valuable stamp. What do you think? |

To partially answer your question, here is a shades of 1D KGV stamps posted in 2010 here by Rod2222 I believe. Perhaps there is more known now? |

This is the shade I think you are referring to jimjamtwo. I remember reading about a deep aniline shade that is from 1914 1915 and is not the common shade. The price Dr Scott Starling (the penny red specialist) had this one for sale at $40 to $50. The example below is the only one I have ever found as well. It is a shame that colours are not good example of the shade in person. The Aniline ink is so intense that the postmark has pushed the ink through to the back of the stamp. Hope I have been a help! |

I have been looking and found this aniline stamp that is as thick and deep a shade as can be found. I thought that this stamp was the other example I posted but this is the one I was referring to. I am sure the shade will stand out on screen as described. |

Interesting topic here. What I would like to know, is the term "Compartment Lines" Australian only, or, do other countries, particularly Commonwealth ones, use it as well?
