Looks a lot like a compartment line, but those are usually parallel to the stamp edge. |

Thank you, Finches, for the illustration ! What causes dry ink to come into being? Lack of dye, or different paper, or some other factors? |

Well, very good question.
Too much time has passed before the Ink was applied to the stamp Plate(s). |

Thank you, Finches, for the answer! Now I see, though finding the difference is not so easy. Could the three stamps below be dry ink? |

I think you are right, Partime. Partial (early stage) compartment lines. |

YES. The 3 stamps certainly look patchy.
In my old KGV specialist catalog's, dry ink stamps in some colors were highly valued.
Interesting looking at the 8 wattle left stamp roos mouth - red bar(?), and center stamp Emu with it's one white sock |

Thank you once again, Finches! Here is the enlarged image of the left stamp (SLW). The "red bar" is in fact a trace from the cancel and a tiny bit of overinking. At the same time looking at the roo's ears will give you the feeling of one ear missing, as the white line is almost merged to what should be the ear. The right wattle, as you have pointed out, has an extra "ball", while the crown has a small extra dot (pearl) on the left, and another one - bottom right. Strange, at least to me, is the letter 'N' in -pence. There are some tiny indents in the frame too. |

As to the middel stamp of the three shown. I find one missing perforation hole interesting, and then the small red dots over the upper frame, and on the right of the left frame, while the lower frame is kind of uneven, especially to the left. In the right value table '1' in the fraction has got an indent from the bottom. I can also see some irregular bumps in the white frame of both value tables, some strange formation, resembling a flower, in the right lower corner of the crown, red dots behind the kings neck, an emerging "crown" over the emu's head plus a very thin streak over its back, let alone the 'stocking' which was mentioned by Finches. Also, looking at the roo I find something likea 'double' chin. There are some minor things too all over the stamp. |
