On the right pane, counting from the top right as position 1, and across, then down to the next row, continuing all the way down to the bottom right as position 60.

On the Left Pan, position 7, we have something identified as, "Break in top frame, and 4th pearl at left in crown joins line." So, it seems that we have positively identified this as Plate 4, single watermark (type 2), comb perf 14.25 x 14.

Left Pane
71(4)e, position 7, is the pearl. Yours is extremely close to the book illustration.
71(4)d, position 1, is the Secret Mark

On the RIGHT pane, you may also be seeing:
71(4)vb, position 60, is the Run "N" of ONE, third state
71(4)k, position 13, distorted ONE PENNY
71(4)l, Position 14, thin ONE PENNY, retouch
71(4)m, position 15, top frame broken left of crown
71(4)o, position 25, NY joined
71(4)p, position 32, white scratch behind kangaroo
71(4)q, position 45, CNE for ONE
and various others.

All of the above are valued at AUS$75 except for broken crown ($6000), NY joined ($750), and the big one CNE ($10,000). Quite the find.

Note: All identifying numbers from the Australian Commonwealth Specialist Catalogue.

Here are some illustrations that should help:

I'd suggest the entire sheet, would trump any singleton, or part thereof.
It may even reach the Postal Museum.

Agreed. Maybe a photo of the entire piece could be done? I, for one, would like to see it.

Hello everyone & Canada :)

I had been waiting to see if geofrog would post more of the fantastic sheet & still have my fingers crossed we get to hear more about this great find & it's path from this point forward.

But for now the stamping must go on

Partime.... many thanks for your input on mine, I'll add a note to it & put it in my girls sheets for Christmas, & thanks also for the effort with geofrogs too, as that input was also very helpful to me as well.

I thought you might all like to see a few more I've found.
I came across one red 1 1/2p first, die II I think, if I'm learning correctly, with a bite out of the bottom of the left '2', then noticed it seemed to be skinny as compaired to the right sides '2'.
I went looking & found more, is this just something the die II's have normally ?

I'll just add scans of other finds that you have shared here earlier as well & invite comment, as there are other differences going on with most of them.
Thanks to everyone for a great thread.
ATB...........Jad

Hi Jad.
No disrespect intended, but posts like your above, I just ignore and carry on,
primarily because it lacks information.
Forums are "show and tell" and best approached with the intention of informing
new collectors.

May I suggest your best approach, as your prev post, first, identify the stamp,

example: 1d green, king george5, C of A watermark Perf xx
to the students of Australian philately, the stamp now has an ID
and a place in the catalogue.

Readers can then investigate, comment, and join in the study of the stamp.

KG5 Australian stamps, are one of the most complex studies in all philately,
one needs to be as precise as possible, if one is to "flyspeck"

Other than that you are doing a cracker job.
Cheers

Hello Rod,
Thanks for your good advise. Sorry all, I'll try to do better for everyone in the future. Little knowledge to inform here I'm afraid, & maybe having toooo much fun

Time to step back while I get some more books.

So much for narrowing my focus, instead it is widening.

ATB...Jad

Glad to see you take it in the manner it was intended
It's all a learning curve.
Sometimes, one gives advice, (esp with values) and all you get is a punch in the nose.

Stamp collectors can be a sensitive lot. :

Cheers Jad.

Jad,
we can ID your stamps.
What you need, in your philately tool box is................

A pair of long pointy nose tongs (circa $14) takes some getting used to, but persevere, they are the best.
A tin of lighter fluid ($5)
A black dish (the black base of a T-Bone steak at the supermarket would do)
A loupe ($12?)

What we have to ID your stamps, is the Brusden-White KG5 Catalogue
every known nick and scratch on a stamp
Circa $50

Cheers

Thanks to everyone who contributed to my education recently.
For those who might be interested, I can advise that a local expert has identified the sheet as follows:

One penny Scarlet-Red, smooth paper
Plate 4, panes 7 & 8
CA/JBC Monogram 1mm from frame
Catalog ref 71G with many varieties
Plating around Sep 1915

Just found my KGV's stamps for this thread. Including my avatar stamp.

For over 5 years I have not been able to find these stamps.

Thought that I had sent them in a large lot and they were gone.

Also found a couple of stock books with KGV's I did not know I had.

There is a room in our house that was full of plastic tubs that date back to when I would buy messy large lots sort them out and then I would send them back to the auction that was best for the stamps concerned. That is before I joined SCF & ebay.

Have sold about half of the plastic tubs this year. It has got to the point that I have no idea what is in that room.

But I know there is a tub full of Australian territories somewhere. A quality lot if I remember right.

Anyway Happy Days. It was so nice to look at those KGV's again.
