The setting sun looks unusual if the atmospheric conditions are unusual. Compare with the French stamp on page four. |

Hi, Kris, if you don't say, I will take it as an open cinema, especially when there are some birds passing! :-) Nature is the grand master indeed#65281; |

A circular stamp in a sheet of the planetary system, the sun takes center stage. Sunspots are visible. 2018 The planets were pictured in separate sheets. (Idebee, you don't need to copy the scans, just refer to them, then the pages will not be quite so long, OK?. K.) |

Thanks, Kris! I love seeing smileys, I used to search for them on my stamps but can't find many! Your smiling sun and smiling moon is really a handsome stamp! Hi, Jonathan, thanks a lot! The one with a dove in the middle of the sun looks interesting although I don't know what story it is telling. Happen to see the sun when searching for Moomin stamps! :-) They even make the stamp into a pendant, wow! It's always refreshing to see the sun rising! |

The sun in the planetary system in the stamp celebrating the discovery of a huge asteroid by the Swiss astronomer Markus Griesser in 2002. The asteroid in red is only about 2.2 kilometers long, so the stamp obviously only shows the position of the planets and the asteroid, not their relative size. The stamp was issued in 2009 for the International Year of Astronomy. |

While the ancient Greeks and Chinese people imagined that the sun is carried in a chariot across the sky, the Egyptians believed that the vehicle is a solar boat! The Solar Barque of Khufu 4th Dynasty 2550-2528 BCE. In 1954, archaeologists found Cheop's (Khufu) funerary barge at Giza in a chamber beneath his pyramid. http://www.artsales.com/ARTistory/A...us_boat.htmlRa Early civilizations recognized the importance of the sun. The chief deity in many ancient cultures was a sun god or goddess. Ancient Egyptians worshipped Ra, a falcon-headed god who carried the sun disk on his headdress. Every day, Ra would cross the sky in "solar boats." https://www.nationalgeographic.org/photo/9sun/ |

"Setting Sun over the Burgenland" The Burgenland is a region in Austria known for its picturesque villages and vineyards, just south of Vienna. The painting was done by Gottfried Kumpf (1930*) and the stamp is part of a set of 1983 featuring contemporary artists. |
