The flight of the jet looks kind of dangerous. Albania issued (1962) a commemorative for the launching of a satellite in 1959, Hungary picked up the motif for the Socialist Postal Union in 1963. Note posthorn and transmission tower.

The setting sun looks unusual if the atmospheric conditions are unusual. Compare with the French stamp on page four.

It's always refreshing to see the sun rising!

The sun in the planetary system in the stamp celebrating the discovery of a huge asteroid by the Swiss astronomer Markus Griesser in 2002. The asteroid in red is only about 2.2 kilometers long, so the stamp obviously only shows the position of the planets and the asteroid, not their relative size. The stamp was issued in 2009 for the International Year of Astronomy.

Early civilizations recognized the importance of the sun. The chief deity in many ancient cultures was a sun god or goddess. Ancient Egyptians worshipped Ra, a falcon-headed god who carried the sun disk on his headdress. Every day, Ra would cross the sky in "solar boats."
