Just found two copies of #480 $5 Marshall in a lot. Both are punch cancelled FRB NY, which I assume means Federal Reserve Bank. Does this cancellation lower the value of the stamps, and, if so, by how much?

I thought punch cancels are usually used on revenue and/or telegraph stamps ?

it was probably a security measure to prevent theft. most perf initialed stamps were done for that reason weather they were used for revenue or postage. |

FRB NY is not a cancel, it was applied by the bank before use. While some of these perfins are scarce and make stamps more valuable, this one is like most and it materially reduces value. |

That's the first I've heard of perfins. My stamps look just like those. I was afraid that they might do more harm than good for values. Thank you very much for your help. |
