Cinderella Or Service- Pay Stamp?

Hello friends!
I have a mystery stamp .Hand cancelation on 2 SGR.(Silber Groschen?) and No.1 with a blue lion. Can it be a stamp for official paid services or a stamp for transport/import/export, postage due?

Hello in my view:

1.- It's not a cinderella, as it has been handwritten cancelled. So, it must be a postage due stamp or cut square.

2.- On the Finish arms, the lion is always over a sword. Furhermore, if it was Finish the face value, should be in kopecks and I can read something like "Sgill", similar to "Skill"

3.- The stamp or cut square, looks very much like Norway's Facit # 6/10 stamps issued in 1863. On the stamp we can read "1101/64". In most Western European countries it would mean January 11th 1864 (it's cleary not from the 1960's!).

So in my view its a postage due Norway stamp or cut square from around 1864.

My guess would be a German issue. SGR could be a Silbergroschen. Hessen has a Lion Rampant with horizontal red and white stripes.

Thanks for replying. I could be one of the German states that issued it as postage due stamp, so I will check with my Deutchland Special catalogues....

This is a revenue stamp from Hessen-Cassell (Kurhessen). The stamp is #6 in the Erler-Norton Old German States to 1945, Anhalt to Kurhessen Catalog, vol.3, 1991. It was issued in 1854. Cataloging this stamp is complicated because of differences in the papers, frames, and seal (lion). The catalog states, "The difficulty in collecting these stamps makes it necessary to give more detailed information." The information goes on for 4-5 pages.

Most simply, there are two paper types, normal and laid. The normal paper types vary in cat. value from 50c to $4.00. The laid paper types catalog between $6.00-$10.00.

As bookbndrbob has said this is a revenue stamp from Hesse-Kassel.

This is a nice example of a revenue stamp from an independent country which never issued its own postage stamps.
