As a kid, I subscribed to Linn's Stamp News and would check out the "Tip of the Week" all the time. I was going through some stamp boxes yesterday and found a bunch I clipped out. Here's their big tip back in 1973. Cape Hatteras plate blocks. I remember those "buy" ads for those at the time. It is a good looking se-tenant. Ah, the good old days!

Thanks for sharing that. It is funny how things turn out. I still use those blocks on my outgoing mail.

I just found a dozen or so blocks a few weeks ago, not sure if they were plate blocks or not.

I bought a sheet as discount FVP. A colleague on another forum mentioned them, so I offered him a few blocks and, nope, he's good, he's go several sheets he bought as FVP.

Cheers,

/s/ ikeyPikey (who has always suspected that, by the time you read about it in the hobby press ...)

Now that I think about it, these tips might have been in "Stamps" magazine.

Love that 1972 National Park series. Went to Hawaii a few years back and visited the City of Refuge park. The stamp seemed more colorful than in person!

"TIP -OF -THE- WEEK" that was rejected .

Go thru all the stamp shows and stamp bourses dealers and pick out the older stamps out of the "2 cent box" ,these are the stamps that will return you the best investment in a few years .

As happen once ebay got start ,those 2 cent purchased items on a display card were selling for 300% to 400% over your purchase price . In the years 2002 to 2010 you could not make up display card to list on your computer fast enough . I think my record was 12 mins after listing a item was sold .

John Ross in Chicago wrote "Stamp Market Tips" for decades, as I recall. I think Henry Gitner writes the column now? When I was growing up, the New York Times had a stamp column on Sundays, but I can't recall who wrote it.

Yes. Gitner writes it now. It usually appears on page opposite inside page of last page.

From latest issue and called Market Tips.
