Impressive documents, Tony.
Rod, the Italians are income tax revs. Maybe it would ease the pain a bit if our own Intern@l Revenue Service would plaster our returns with neat revenue stamps. Nah, probably not. |

Sorry to disappoint Rod, I think they're serial numbers. Here's another, much more modest, example: the business half of a 1 Rupee Stamped Paper from Idar State, with four 1 Anna postal-fiscals - here used very fiscally. One does wonder about the suitability of that moustache in 1947, though ... |

The jury's still out. I fancy control numbers, by management...as theft prevention.

No Rodney, I'm afraid, the jury's back, and has been discharged with thanks for its service. They're sequential numbers, and a regular feature of Kishangarh Stamped Papers. |

Can you explain the little white triangles please? Your brevity is challenging.

Punch marks - a pretty sure way of preventing reuse. You find several types of cancellation on Kishangarh revenues: punch marks, serial numbers, the handwritten initials 'MC', a couple of types of rubber stamps, and circular date stamps that look just like the postal ones (and may be postal ones doubling as fiscal cancels). You can also find various combinations of these. There are quite a few Kishangarh court documents floating around with postage stamps used as fiscals and cancelled with CDSs, being offered as postal covers at fancy prices. Some buyers will be in for unpleasant surprises when they offer them for resale, unless they can find more mugs to buy them for fancier prices. Sorry I can't show any specimens, but as you'll understand, I don't buy 'em. This is a genuine cover, though: (SG 26) |

It was just the backing behind the document when I scanned it. Nothing sinister ... |

A well timed nudge Tony, thank you. It had not occurred to me to seek him out. Dave is our Cinderella club exchange supt. He has some seriously wicked stamps. His new home resides here http://www.ozrevenues.com/ |
