G'day Phil,
what appears to be a simple problem, is rather more complex, and I am not sure there is a route suitable for you.
My own solution is to take the image in question, and reduce the
size by making another image, and it's here where it is a little
difficult, it will depend on what image software you have, most people seem to have the FREE "Ifranviewer" I think it is.

I have ACDSee, and I take an image and "pretend" to make a collage, that is, make a single image incorporating say 4 pictures, but really only use the single image, that way the size of the original is diminished in size.

I suppose another way to accomplish this would be for you to open the image, then take a "screenshot" or a "screencapture" then crop that image around the stamp.
I just tried that and my 90Kb image was reduced by 30Kb (a third)
to 60Kb.
Others here may have a simpler solution perhaps?

Thank You Rod for the reply...i do not understand why I can not tell the scanner the size I want to scan..with my previous scanner I would use business card size for stamps and 6x4 for envelopes..i have no problem sending an image of a stamp or cover to an internet stamp market...they do not seem to care about the size of the scan..but the Stamp Community Forum does care...it has to be something simple..perhaps the drivers are not loaded for the scanner !

Philb, Most scanner software will allow you to set the resolution. Try to lower the resolution. Mine allows from 65dpi to 1200dpi.

Aha! I see your problem.

You see, I scan all my stamps at 600dpi and save as a *.jpg, which means all my stamps are around 250KB. and archived.
I then, "Have" to reduce, to place on this forum.

You are different as you are scanning the stamp on the day.
Revstampmans advice is then applicable.
here is a screenshot of my scanner
I placed the cursor (white arrow) near the "resolution"
All you have to do, is reduce this down to a number
that gives you a final image under 90Kb
(I would take a guess at 300dpi)

The trade off, is that all your stamp images then (may) lack definition.
It will be trial and error.
Hope this helps

Just a thought, does your scanner save each image as a *.jpg?
If not, other formats increase the image volume immensley
all your scans should have an extension of *.jpg (eg "me at the beach.jpg")
it is this format that is best for images on this forum.

A quick visual aid of South Africa KGV revenues...

The largest stamp is from the 1913 series, and are often referred to as "large heads." The smaller revenue is from the 1931/1937 series. Not surprisingly, these are referred to as "small heads." Not all values were printed in all years, but the year is visible right under George's neck. I threw in a basic definitive for a quick size comparison. A quick spotting feature if you're looking at a scan of one stamp is whether the Revenue/Inkomst(e) tablets are straight, along the top, or curved.

I use photobucket and Picasa and they resize automatically for me.
I cannot send pics from my Computer because SCF does not read Hebrew and will not allow the upload.

But it's easy to scan and send to PB or Picasa so no problems.
