i have the resolutions set to 75 and the image is coming in at 50 kb..any advice appreciated on doing a better scan !

Phil, if that's true, you can increase your res to 140 or so.
To get a better scan reduce the area you are scanning.
You do not need the peripheral data, that is a waste of res

draw a marquee around the stamp itself and scan.

I look forward to it Harry, I am a bit weak on Aussie revs.

I should never apologise regarding condition.
A mint unhinged looks nice, and is good for studying
flyspecks, process and colour etc &etc.

The used offer a different story, they have carried out their duty,
they have been out there working, they have been in law courts, the many fiscal back rooms of business, they have felt the sting of the hammer, they have adorned documents that have been there when our respective countries have grown.
They should not be denied.

I subpoena the following for my argument:
A pissant, common as muck, one penny GB QV, how boring!
Place it on an 1885 Smart & Abercrombie Funeral account,
and it is transformed.

We are taken back to another time,
we are there as J simpson scribbled his elegant script across
the document as he received payment.
We even know the coffin was One pound, ten shillings,
and to dress the body was five bob.

Post 'em up anyway. Everyone who has more than a few revenues has revenues that wouldn't begin to pass muster if they were just postage stamps.

Postage stamps are the pampered stepsisters, and revenues are the Cinderellas doing all the hard work. They've led a hard life, and they sometimes show it.

If I stumbled across a replacement for the following South Africa KGV revenue, I might consider it, but I'm perfectly happy with this one and am not looking...

Yes, it has an issue at the top of the right side.

Is that her name? She apparently has her own revenue stamp...

This is a 1936 federal revenue from Mexico. Believe it or not, it was a tax on prostitutes at 5 centavos per "transaction." Public outrage ended the program prematurely.

The American Revenuer did a small writeup on this stamp in 1984, and the author couldn't resist the joke about collecting the stamp on piece.

Man, that is one desirable stamp you have there brother.
I want one, I mean I really want one, are they
readily available or a rare curiosity?

Mexico was one of the great proponents of Art Deco, and would
be one of my favourite countries, if securing fine examples were
easier than experienced.
We can still see the influence in this stamp, even in 1936.
Putting aside the terrible usage of the issue,
it is a very handsome design.

I checked my database on this subject and your reference came up

1999 (long before my time :)
Some years back the 'American Revenuer' ran a note in its April issue
of a Brothel Tax stamp from Nevada (the illustration was based on
Spain's Goya 'Maja Desnuda' issue, and quite a few people wrote
sending money to the State authorities trying to buy them!

Also a colleague was looking for Maltese stamps cancelled "PAID"
used on medical certificates issued around 1921.

I don't know...mine has a very light cancel and I looked a bit for an unused one, without success.

I know for sure of two. The collector who had them was kind enough to share one.

The catalogue of Mexican revenues lists several stamps (8 or so, if I recall correctly) in the 1936 series...as far as I know, this was the only one issued for this particular purpose. The separate images weren't depicted, so I cannot confirm a common design theme, but it would make sense.

Collin

There is generally only bills, so I am very inventive when avoiding going there.
I don't have any friends, I just know people,
so I never expect letters.
I'll toddle up there this arvo.
Thanks for reminding me.

I said I would post these on the weekend I had the camera charged and found a bit of time up my sleeve to post these so here they are,

These are Victorian Postage Due revenues with AR prefixes, most of these are from the turn of the 20Th century.

Well as you can see some I just don't have prefixes for also this is where I stopped collecting these and started on my U.S. collections.
and please all feedback welcome.

regards Harry

Rod:

Lovely Funeral chit... would look greast in my Death on Stamps collection.

Phil:

Those revenues were cancelled by the inspector's signature... lovely flowing script.
