Harry-
Fantastic. Thanks for sharing. AR61 had escaped my attention until your post. I thought I already spent too much time flipping through catalogues...apparently not enough.

Quote: Rod, Have your Potatoe's arrived yet? This answer your question Eric?..... Beautiful! I have mounted them (no corny jokes please:) They are happily chatting with all their friends in the US revenue pages. Last time I looked , they were chatting with Roy Barton White of the Western Union, and Minuteman. George Wasington IR, cracked a joke about no more potatoes, we want wine stamps, to which a rejoinder of loud cheers went up in the album. The noise was distracting, so I put the album back in the slipcase. |

Nuggethill, the yellow Victoria with "English Mail" is a ripper, I really don't understand it. What is an "English Mail" doing on a Fiscal??
The " English Mail NSW " was used on mail that was offloaded in Melbourne and sent by train to Sydney as it would get there before the ship did. The machine mark is scarce.
That one deserves some research methinks. Can I nick your scan please?

Correction: Incorrect "english mail" This one you have, is an English Mail Type 2 you see the left hand portion of a duplex, the rhs was a barred obliterator with Victoria. A TPO (travelling Post Office) cancel. You can see an image of it here http://www.stampsofvictoria.com/english.phpThis bit from author J.MGee US |

Eric, I saw wine stamps in your lovely collection up for auction. I thought I would snaffle them with good bidding. Then I had second thoughts, and decided rather than bid unreservedly I would set a limit (prior to your scan) and not go past, to preserve the right atmosphere in the forum. If I was in an auction room, it would be different I have to find something suitable for you, in reciprocation for the s-mashing potatoe revs. |

Quote: Thanks Rod very interesting read so the post mark is a type 2, Harry Can I borrow your scan please? I contacted Les Molnar re the fiscal postage use, and he confirms "Stamp Duty" stamps were used postally (like Wow!) but he would like an image, and I will not send him one without your approval. |

Quote: cancellation that reads KINGS something Yes I spotted that, We should need a better scan for study, but I should expect it a common rubber stamp impression based on the fact the impression is in violet, and it is on a fiscal. It is probably a business name or suburb. One never knows though. I had a scan for years of a George Washington stamp with a diagonal "Amerika" impression across it in violet. It lay dormant for years until one day, I read an article about a shipping line, and a ship called "??? Amerika" which solved the puzzle. The finer details I cannot recall at this time. |

Collin I use to think that it was the ants pants until I started to collect U.S. revenues but still a very attractive rev, Rod have a gander at these mate, photo's with a microscope and they are the best I can do. Still not to clear though it does look like KINGSW and the second word starts with a K but not to sure what the printing is after it. regards Harry |

Thanks Nuggethill, I'll send a copy off to Les Molnar directly.
I should imagine you'll not solve the fiscal strike. Kinsway was a thoroughfare down near the Yarra River, Melbourne and this could be "Kingsway Carriages" "Kingsway Bootmakers" etc but with a 4 bob fiscal, and a dedicated rubber stamp would suggest a major undertaking perhaps a bank. The only real avenue to solve these things is to view copious amounts of similar revenues and see if you can match and get other clues. Similar to tracing Perfins. I think you see Kingsway struck twice on the revenue. ...and it may be something completely different :)
