Well, it does take skill after all.

France, too new for my references, I believe:

Just received a batch of half Kishangarh stamped papers, with some spectacular frankings. (Rod, do you feel the need for Mutilated Stamp Papers thread? If so, I can get if off to a flying start )

The early type 2 Annas stamped paper, with additional 2 Annas (pink) and 1 Anna (green) adhesives:



A high value franking on a Perkins, Bacon printed 8 Anna stamp paper of Maharaja Madan Singh:



5 x 2 Rupees, 12 x 1 Rupee, 2 x 4 Annas + 8 Annas = 23 Rupees - three weeks' pay for a local postman!

And another fairly hefty one from the reign of Maharaja Yagyanarain Singh:



11 x 1 Rupee, 3 x 4 Annas, 1 x 2 Annas, 1 x 1 Anna = 11 Rupees 15 Annas

That Indian Mail obviously got through,
I have just had a package of rare stamps ($150)
stolen during Aust Post handling.

We shall see if I get my money back at least.

Can't recall the last time any stamp mail for me went missing, Rod - over five years ago, at a guess. I get plenty of mail from India, registered and unregistered, and it all comes through.

In the meantime, one more mutilated stamped paper - one for the lovers of the output of the Diamond Soap Works, Kishangarh. Another fairly large franking, 11¼ Rupees



with the DSW KSG imprint at right.

Hi Cjd,

You French stamp is a "Effets de Commerce" revenue, Y&T 382 issued in 1900. These replaced a very smilar design where above the value there was a printed "18" for the start of the date instead of just "1" as on this one.

Another mutilated Kishangarh stamped paper:



for a much more modest 2 Rupees 3 Annas, or in the vicinity of 30 cents total. As I said in an earlier post, Kishangarh printed some values in different colours for revenue use. The most commonly used revenue stamp was the 1 Anna, paying stamp duty of around a cent. For revenue use it was printed in blue, as on the example above, but for postage it was red/carmine:

I don't really do revenues, but I always seem to acquire some when I buy small Spanish collections. Here is one item I believe is either from Cuba or Philippines.

It looks like Philippines #28 in Forbin, an issue from 1882, overprinted on the 1865 issue. It is also found with the overprint in green.

Sometimes it is a little tricky reading Forbin, so if anyone wants to double check that, it won't hurt my feelings.
