While we're on the subject of Kishangarh ... the first issue printed by the Diamond Soap Works, Kishangarh, and a prime example of what might have been



These are the 1912 '2 ANNA' stamps in an imperf pair: listed in Gibbons as SG 51b, at £700. The oval STAMP OFFFICE cancellations give the game away though: these have been used fiscally. Actual value? Maybe £5 on a good day

The second value from a large set of Japanese telegraphs issued in 1885:



Sweden documentary revenue, 8kr from a very large set, first issued in 1895, and kept pretty much the same until replaced in 1968 (by, I believe, an early Slania-engraved stamp). There are differences over the decades, but other than a partial list of watermarks, the differences are beyond the scope of my references.

This is listed by Forbin as 'for the bourse' and in current parlance it seems to translate to VAT:








It would have been useful to keep the relative sizes the same. The Japanese telegraph is by far the smallest of these stamps.

Not sure my few Denmark revenues are enough to support their own thread...these are found with, and without, crown watermark. Here's another:


This value/color is not listed in the 1875 series, so some more digging is required.

The third stamp is from 1850 - 1863 Austrian occupied Italy, Lombardo-Veneto. That is, areas around Milan and Venice, for those unfamiliar with European geography.

Thanks Cursus. It seems to correspond to Forbin #7 from the Lombardo-Veneto general revenues. Forbin doesn't picture it.

Marwar didn't issue postage stamps, so this is another one of those states where a revenue will have to do. Based on this effort, they probably would have done okay with postage stamps. I bought this thinking it dated from the end of King George V's reign, but now I'm not sure.

For obscurity, it would be hard to go past this one:



This is a 1 Anna revenue from one of the districts Jointly Administered (Du-Amli) by Indore and Dhar States in Central India. There were several of these, all small pockets of territory, usually within the borders of one or the other State.

While on Indore (or Holkar - the name of the ruling family), I forget whether I've shown this 3 Rupee Motor Vehicle Fee stamp:



At least you got your 3 Rupee's worth

Sorry, I can't cjd. Beyond some time in the first half of the 20th century, I couldn't hazard a guess.

Though it doesn't strictly belong here, being postal, this postcard illustrates the complications of the Indore-Dhar Du-Amli:



It's an Indore State postcard, used from the Sundarsi enclave, with a British Indian 'Sundarsi - Dhar State' CDS.

consisted of a couple of villages, but it was administered jointly by Indore, Dhar and Gwalior. Central India was the cartographer's nightmare.

Panama is the only country for which I am actively collecting revenues. Here is a 10 Balboa (10 US dollar) passport revenue on a page from a passport. Looks like someone was planning a trip from Peru to Panama.



The stamp at first glance may appear to be engraved, but it is in fact printed using the photogravure process taking the image from a stamp that was engraved.

It appears the consular worker was having a bad stamp day, as while they did fold along the perfs, when they went to separate the stamp, it ended up taking a chunk of the one below it.

That Panama stamp has a nice, old look about it. I don't think I have any Panamanian revenues, and I should rectify that.
