These stamps were overprinted with a violet moire pattern starting in the second half of 1915. Apparently the trip to British Honduras during World War I was considered treacherous, and the overprint was used so that the stamps could be invalidated if they fell into enemy hands.

The pattern is more obvious in person than in this scan.

The 1-cent is found in green and yellow green, with green cataloging a bit higher. Scott doesn't mention the yellow green variety.

Wow...I never knew about this. I'm still learning something new every day, and now I want these...lol.

They remind me of what Lebanon has done -- the so-called "Cedar Overprints" where a network of light gray was added so that the wrong side wouldn't be benefited if they were able to capture stocks of current stamps during Lebanon's civil war.

That's a very nice set Colin, and difficult to find, despite not being an expensive set.

This will finish off the moire overprints...MR1, war tax. With it are the rest of the major war tax varieties listed by Scott.

MR2 and MR3:

MR4 and MR5:

The various war tax issues from World War I could support a thread or two of their own. Don't think I haven't thought about it, but I don't want to tax anyone's patience, and the interest level might be pretty limited.

I just checked my British Honduras, and I have the moire set and didn't realise it!

A War Tax thread would be interesting. I have War Tax stamps from about 15 countries.
