I'm guessing the stock card is a UX27 or UX27a One Cent. As you see there is stamped "REVALUED 2 c P. O. DEPT." It is not a blank card, there is a typed meeting notice on the back, but this particular card was not addressed nor mailed.

I have several used 1 cent Jefferson post cards, which when the rate went up sometime in the late 1950's I think, all have a 1 cent postage stamp affixed to the left of Jefferson. I've not before seen where the cared is "revalued" by a rubber stamp.

I'm posting this mainly because it is interesting, but if anyone knows more about this phenomena of "revaluing by rubber stamp" please inform us. I am curious as to if this was legitimate and if it was very common.

A detailed explanation of UX39 (and other surcharged postal cards of 1952) is available on page 38 of the UPSS Postal Card Catalog, 2015 edition. The light green surcharges were applied by Tickometer machines using metal dies. 397,267,080 cards were surcharged out of the 58,367,261,000 green 1c Jefferson cards printed. The surcharging was the result of a rate change.

Thank you Don for the ID , ikeyPikey for the link (which will no doubt keep my occupied for a while), and jobi01 for the additional background.

I acquired the contents of a relative's interesting attic some time back which I'm now finally going through.

The "revalued" imprint looks like it might have been rubber stamped, but also maybe by a 1950's era mimeograph or even offset press, so it was interesting to learn that it was applied by a metal die.

Again, thank you!

A grungy card, but I am wondering if it is an early version of the one posted by moneil?

A different subject, I wonder what the AA stands for? Any thoughts? Alcoholics Anonomous wasn't started til 1935.

The purpose of both revalue overprints was the same - to make an excess of cards usable after a rate change.
The WWI-era 2 cent card rate of November 2, 1917-June 30, 1919, reverting back to 1 cent.
And the later rate change from 1 to 2 cents effective January 1, 1952.
Both are explained in detail in the UPSS Postal Card Catalog as noted by Bill Lehr above.

AA could be Athletic Association or Alumni Association.
