Scott 227 Newfoundland Cancel....first Time Seeing This Cancel.

I have seen hundreds of different cancels on Canada and Provincial stamps...Here is an inline double cancel from July.25.1935.

No town/City cancel..No fancy cancel that I am used to seeing.
Any ideas if this was a common cancel or some short used cancel..??

Perchance is a fiscal use.

A possibility archerg..Sent it to Malcolm of the "Newfoundland Study Group" to see what he thinks...If there is anything important about this abnormal cancel...I will post it here.

I would agree. Looks like one of those date stamp contraptions with the rotating numbers.
Probably from a cheque, stamped at the bank.


You know, one of these types of things, but a 1935 version.

Wow James, did not know they still made them. I figured they were all electric or computer print types in this "Modern Age."

Thanks AQ. Getting a bit off topic but - Good read and it really does appear that the network is melding into one homogeneous unit. After all, when you look at anything man has said in the past, it almost always appears that what was stated becomes a self fullfilling prophecy of futre things to come.

One of my partners sat in a conference room back in 1999 as I pushed hard to get a T1 line for our company. He beat his fist on the table, and declared 'the internet is nothing more than a hula hoop!' To this day I still bust his chops and we have a good laugh over this (but at least we got the T1 at the time)!

AQ, sorry, the intent was not that you were going off topic but me- I should have said "I am getting off topic" first. Next time I will clearly state my intent. Not focusing like you said and getting tired of being tired and sad about hearing of all the deaths happening in this Wonderful world of ours, and the fact that people are still ignoring health officials.

And now on top of it, the largest mass murder in my home province of Nova Scotia yesterday. 19 dead over many scenes across the province and still counting. It's all very disturbing.

It's wierd and interesting. The Silver Jubilee for King George V was May 6, 1935--so not associated with that date. I thought it might be a special cancel around this event, but unlikely.

I'd lean towards a non-postal use, but 5 cents seems so small for other fiscal reasons.

Tommy..You got me thinking..Maybe the stamp was attached to a cover and canceled, then additional stamp(s) were applied to make it legal.

Then possibly re-canceled through the postal system and released...It is a possibility...That would explain the double cancel..just my opinion.
