I have no idea, I'll have to find that one out, though it wouldn't be called "state 0". I suspect the original defect would have been identified before the sheets left the Note Printing Branch and only the recut versions made it to the public.
I am confused - many would say this is my normal state. I have just noticed that you are saying that that this sequence of states comes from master plate I. I had been assuming master plate II, which is where ACSC puts it. Now a sequence of states like this can't come in the same form from two separate masters.
As this is really virgin territory for me, clarification would be welcome.
I do not recall saying that the 4 were from the 1st master plate, in an earlier response to you I said "All the states shown belong to the 2nd master plate."
That's true, especially with the typhoon recut, with the scan it is much easier to see. I usually use a special microscope to give greatly detailed images of the recut, but I temporarily loaned the microscope to my niece to use for her science studies at university (providing of course she looks after it). Until I get it back in a few weeks I will be scanning and enlarging the scan with the software I have for that purpose.
Your 8d Tiger Quoll images & discussion enlightened me after reading the Catalogue. Could a Niobium Magnet find imbedded metal in the tree trunk of some Plate 1 stamps.
The 'Plastic' alto reference is interesting if it's true.
