Been dabbling on and off in previous years. Due to current circumstances finally got around to sifting through 150 years worth of family items. So I have found a stamp album belonging to a grandfather - it was school prize to him and is dated 1900. There are about 300 or so stamps in it. Coming back into this is like a different world! The diversification is amazing. My medium term quest is to enjoy collating the random collection I now seem to have. I will be honest in that they will all be sold in due course. Had a few hours looking through this album and I dont think I will get rich from it! Any way here is my first question - are there any guides to Japanese stamps? I know they are a minefield but GB and US stamps seem to be well catered for. There are some here I cant find even with the mighty google helping!

Welcome, and may I suggest you post here a few scans of the Japanese stamps in question... some members might well be able to identify based on their holdings...

Stampworld.com is a free online catalogue. They like you to register with them to get unlimited page views, which is fine to do.

'Free' meaning that the cost is actually that you allow them to sell, trade, and barter access to your personal information.
It is like saying to some honey bees, "come stay at this free beehive I put out for you".

Thanks for your replies. As this album is dated 1900 should I leave it as is or transfer the contents to a modern type stamp storage? Or should I get it appraised? This was my grandfathers but I have no emotional attachment to it as I never knew him. I have another album, mine, from the 1960`s along with a few hundred loose stamps. All quite a mish mash at the moment!

Tarquin, welcome. I would put them in a better album, one which has stamps on just one side. This album you show is a disaster waiting to happen

That is a beautiful stamp album.
Not seen that one before, looks like a spring binder.

Your Japanese, in the majority shown are Revenue stamps
Your bottom image left hand page, would fetch in the region of $6-$10 maybe
I recently saw a collection of 50 or so revenues sell for $40
Fairly common issues from what I can see of yours.

Why go to the trouble of moving stamps?
You'll be transferring one mishmash, to another.
Just sell as is.
