I had to look up Baroda,
yes, the two animals L&R are pachyderms.

I was a little remiss in not applauding
Collin's pmks, the Chakrata squared circle was super.

I am a bit nervous at the moment,
we have a cyclone heading our way,
must protect the stamps...

Rod, actually, I thought of Baroda because the title of the ruler, Gaekwar, alluded to his love of cattle as well, and Baroda was a major state.

We're about to be hit by some of your warm weather. The forecast is 41 on Sunday. I don't suppose you'd care to take it back again, and keep it, would you?

And speaking of interesting postmarks, I received this one from Bhor today:

Clearly someone was trying to economise by watering down the ink. It should have liked like this:

But thank goodness the Pandit's portrait escaped relatively unscathed.

Tony,
I suppose you were delighted getting hold of that one
I can't really say it is <nice> can I?
but yes interesting.

Hot weather! Gollygosh!
it was 43 degrees C here today,
..and I was up on my tin roof, screwing
corrugated iron sheets down for the cyclone.
The neighbors must have thought I was barking mad.

Really! that sort of job is below my station.
I should be stamping.
Sorry to say I didn't fall off the roof, and here to
annoy you for another season

Well, I suppose if the hot tin roof didn't get you, the cyclone might ... Especially after those not very kind remarks about by Bhor Beauty ...

What were those lines about Mad dogs and Englishmen?

The latest SHIP MAIL ROOM I have, is a window envelope dated 1963
-----------------------
Hijacked from elsewhere:

Ship Mail Rooms, I think were in all the capital cities (I know for certain Melb. and Sydney and Perth/Freemantle.) They were intended for overseas mail (which of course in the period went by ship.) Later they were used for AIRmail as well. The major GPO's had a posting box for overseas mail as did some of the larger metro PO's where the mail was bagged and taken to the GPO Shipmail room for processing.

I purchased this because of the title used to sell it on Delcampe. It had the word Precursor in it.

The date is October 20, 1877, the convoluted cancel / postmark is known as a 'Cercle Undule' (corrugated circle) used for 'convoyeurs lignes' (Conveyor or Conveying Lines) (Railways).

Now I am wondering which cancel is actually the precursor and to what?

I like the signature swirls.

Maybe the convoluted CDS is precursor to
later TPO cancels?

Précurseur: (Fr.) forerunner.
Precursore: (It.) forerunner.

Maybe in relation to the Postcard?

I remember in my youth some long-gone stamp tipster in an English stamp magazine recommending items to stow away in the 'Old Oak Chest', for future profits. This cover is from my Old Oak Chest. It was prompted by Rod's reference to Airmail CDSs in Australia:

(It's in the Chest as a nice solo franking of the CofA watermarked 1/4, SG 131.)

Lovely clear CDS strike.
A lot of KG5 sidefaces lack that.

I'll be looking for the oak chest
when I next make a midnight visit.

I have hijacked your image of the "buy cuban sugar"
for my "sugar story" collection

I love that BOAC etiquette on the Aussie cover,
not seen that one before.
That is a classy cover with a clean clear
machine cancel. A keeper.
