"Marginal ornaments" is the only term I know, and that isn't it. If you think of the term, let us know. Maybe the effects of spock will wear off.
I find the foreign-offices issues interesting. For anyone who isn't that familiar with them, the larger powers often maintained post offices in the same cities at the same time, under the theory that the local postal services were not reliable. The German Smyrna stamp was postmarked on Halloween, 1910, and the British block was postmarked on the last day of the following February, four months later.

Cjd I believe Rod has the answer, thanks Rod that will stop most of my endless looking for an ACT but there is a small chance. The 5d brown KGV was from August 1938 the airmail rate to UK and British Empire. Between Sep 1933 and Aug 1938 6,195,000 c of a wmk stamps were printed. I just assumed the ACT came about with the stamps commemorating the opening of Federal Parliament House in 1927. Not a wise way to understand the ACT history. Thanks Rod that's a great help. KGV |

It is nice to see some stamps come into the house that are not Australian. A friend dropped them in today. Have picked these 2 examples out as the most interesting. The red paper will never see water. The stamps are probably fixed on forever anyway. A pleasant surprise. KGV. |

Nice! That Swiss cancel is one of the rare Engleberg Humperdink strikes.

No, no, I was with you that far...I was looking for the followup comment, and it just wasn't there. Edit: I should follow up with something on topic instead...I picked up a small lot of French Colonies last night, and here are two of the nicer postmarks... #16 Ceres with an okay Saigon cancel, and #52 Commerce with Guadeloupe. |
