Retuning collector needs to get current wish Israel tabs after a 10 year break . After I do that, I will begin filling in from pre 1955 what I can afford.

Always was a customer of Garel and friendly with the owner George Garfinkel . Sadly he passed 4 years ago .Will miss him.

Any tips on a good dealer for these things ?Not many dealers left in the US it seems sadly.

An advice is appreciated .

Thanks !

You might also look at auctions. Israeli stamps, including the earlier material, seem to be a buyer's market. This is a recent UK sale, for example

Not addressing your question, moonwalker, but I've always felt that the focus on "tabs" may have limited interest in the stamps of Israel a grerat deal. Only a smallish percentage of stamps on each sheet can have a "tab" (selvage really) so their prices are naturally higher. Israel has a moderate stamp issuing policy, their stamps are well designed, and they show history and culture and so on rather than Mickey Mouse or Lady Diana. So that would make Israel very attractive to collect, you'd think, but Israel stamp collecting remains fairly limited. I collect Israel in a modest way, and I wish "tabs" had never been invented, though (if I read Hebrew) I realize they serve a purpose in adding to what's on the stamp.

Try looking at ads for Israel stamps in Linn's Stamp News or the American Philatelist. Also, I'm sure you can find an Israel collector society online. See if you can get a copy of their publication and look at their website. They'll know who sells such stamps. ebay will work for some stamps, collections, albums, and so on. And buying overseas is much easier than it used to be wherever you find good dealers. I buy from around the world with no problem. Good luck.

I occasionally purchase Israeli stamps on ebay. The majority of post-1955 stamps are easy to find and very affordable, even MNH with full tabs.

Used are harder to find with tabs, I suspect that the majority of these are CTO or from first day covers.

As for tabs, I am with DrewM here, personally I find them annoying. Many of the tall narrow stamps with full tabs are easily damaged, so the only secure way of keeping them in a stock book is sideways, and once in an album with mounts, the stamps are always at risk of sliding out of the tall narrow mounts.

And worst of all, for the borderline obsessive-compulsive, a row of the early stamps with the inconsistent tab lengths looks very untidy. Tab length seems to be completely random. Even within the same denomination it is almost impossible to find stamps with matching heights.

...even that Philately today start to be very expensive, and preferable way to fill Your gaps in collection, especially Israel, is to obtain it from web/internet offerings, but that will be time consumption....

Probably, to made direct contact with dealer inside Israel (they have few, still active in Tel Aviv), but, exist few non-dealers collectors that have good accumulation and willing to fill Your gaps according Your want-list!

I advice You to search on google for stamp collectors in Israel, probably in USA too and from there to start and find someone that can supply You with material....

Pre-1955 period, will be little bit problematic, but any way, made Your want-list (Scott, Michel numbers or by description) to have ready, if someone will respond.

I even suggest, to made one "stable" connection with someone that is willing to fill Your want-list.

(shown: Michel number 1-6, with tabs)
