Hello,

I have two 4c W #457 Perf 9.8(nope not perf 10) Rotary coil press. One light brown and the other is dark brown. I have measured them over and over and over. Perf 9.8 fit them better. Anybody have seen perf 9.8 before on a 457? And what about the different colors? Would dark brown worth more then the light brown one?

I appreciate any input. Thank you.

Kind regards,

Patrick

9.8 is the correct perforation for these stamps. Scott uses an approximation of 10. They usually round up or round down when noting the perforation.

The number of perforations are truncated to the nearest half perforation. Unfortunately, standard perforation gauges are metric. The Stamp Smarter site should have links to the multi-gauge which has exact perforation spacing from the Kiusalas US Specialty gauge. Note that flat plate perf 10 is not the same as rotary press perf 10. Ditto for perf 11.

Kiusalas 10-80 = 1/0.08"/1.27 = 9.84 perfs per 2 cm.

Oh..Ok I understand. I did not know that. Thank you.

In other words...Everyone use a standard perforation gauge but if we need a more accurate one(for example we have doubts regarding the perforation of a us stamp or to spot a fake stamp) then it is best to turn to a Kiusalas Specialist Gauge or a K-gauge.
