R 78 Double Transfer T78

Back to working on plating T78. Attached is a copy of the true T78 note it is not the ink bleed onto the white areas of the design but the doubling of the lines around the word "Revenue" , etc in the northeast corner of the stamp. This variety and like one similar comes from the bottom row of the late state sheet. I have also attached a copy of a strip of 5 from the Curtis Census (courtesy Siegel website) which I believe may contain T78. Who now owns this strip? Can we get a better scan ?

I can't imagine a stamp being so worn that this is all that is left of the T78
DT. It's usually a very obvious variety from several different positions.

Most all positions of R78 late state exhibit ink bleeding. Ink bleeding is where the high spots on the plate (white areas) are worn down to the point where the ink from the deeper portions of the plate (blue areas)is squeezed up onto the white areas causing the irregular wavy blue lines across the printed stamp. The double transfer(s) occur only in positions where the transfer roll was incorrectly registered with the prior impression causing lines to be doubled. To date I have only been able to identify 2 stamps in the bottom row where this doubling occurred that being T78 and one other with minor doubling in the same area.

I was amazed that Richard did not seem to think that pair significant at the time.

BTW, I think both are T78.
