The Japanese occupation stamps for Burma have the countryname on the stamp. The only thing is that it is not in roman script. The one with the elephant has "Biruma" in Katakana script in the white rectangle. I suppose the Burmese writing says something similar, but cannot decipher those.

There are stamps from the Netherlands without countryname as well: Sc. 124-131 (excluding 125): Silver Jubilee 1923, and Sc. 140: Royal Dutch Lifeboat Society

on the stamp rod222 posted from montenegro, the characters across the top transliterate as porto marka, having soething to do with the type of stamp and the characters at the bottom are para, the units of currency. In cyrillic, the country name of montenegro is something like tserna gora, which translates as black mountain.

The US example (prob others) which comes to mind is the 1920 Pilgrim Tercentenary. No country name, for which there was much criticism at the time.

It's not one I am terribly proud of, but it's the only one I have.

That's good information, you work for Tuvalu?

@Rod: If "work" means getting paid, then no. I do some unofficial stuff for the Tuvalu Philatelic Bureau - some members of my extended family work there.

Yes, Many of the stamps are "Silent" , without name of entity, most are "Silent symbolic" without name of entity but pictures head of state, royalty, coats of arms, and other nationalistic symbol.

Stamps are not "silent" because you can't read the language or script.

Modern stamps like the Tokelau one shown are invalid for international mail per UPU guidelines however is mailed with the entire sheet it would meet those standards.

Only the United Kingdom can issue international valid stamps without the countries name shown on stamp. Of course those stamps are all "Silent symbolic" with the queens head.

Yes I had to put the handbrake on a few I was about to post,
I wasn't sure if they complied. Ryukyu Islands was one.
