I know nothing about fiscals of British India (or anywhere else, for that matter). Bought this one from an APS circuit book. It was identified by the seller as SA 14. Can anyone tell me what the SA stands for, or where I can look to find out?

This is Br. India 1868 2A Vic. mauve special adhesive stamp (Barefoot 14) with perf. 14, printed on white wove paper with India globe watermark.

A special adhesive stamp by definition is a type of revenue stamp for use on plain paper mostly for notarization purpose, as an equivalent to Judicial or Non-Judicial Stamp Paper or for use on Hundi.

From 1879, special adhesives were authorized for payment of fees levied on commissions to practise as advocate, attorney or solicitors in the courts of Br. India.

Rod, we never knew. But thanks to you both. Never expected so thorough a response. Clearly I need a copy of Barefoot. Yet this stamp (like the other six it that I also bought) is identified by the seller using SA numbers. What does that SA stand for?

Special Adhesive? Both Rod and Joy used Special Adhesive in their descriptions of the stamp.

Good guess! And the number that the seller provided matches the Barefoot number. That must be it. Thanks, littleriverphil.

Yes, nicely solved LRP,
I did not relate SA to Self Adhesive.

Acronyms irritate me somewhat, deal with computers and they are awash with them, it's like the rosetta stone.
