Perforations And Guidelines

I'm new and have many questions. As I understand the subject, guidelines were used to align a flat plate sheet so it could be cut or a guideline could be used to align the sheet for perforations. Now my question is can a stamp have perforations over a guideline. There's probably a simple answer but I guess I just don't get it.

Yes, some guidelines are perforated. It depends on the issue and plate layout.
Did you have a specific stamp in mind?

Lines are not limited to flat plates - consider rotary coils with the "joint line" as one example.

The stamp I saw was Scott# 573, "America". The red guideline was verticle on the right and was perforated. Hope that's enough information.

As John Becker said, it depends on the issue and the plate/perforator layout. It is not an inconsistency to have perforated guidelines.
