Hello all! let me start by stating I am completely ignorant about stamps. My son inherited some stamps from his great-grandfather (1888-1988, RIP), but has no interest in collecting and wonders if there's any value so he can contribute to his RESP. It's not a lot of stamps and I've taken some sample photos. Some appear to be used, but most - well, my worry is that they're reproductions my grandpa purchased as a set. Some countries have several, some only one.

Looking forward to any thoughts at all on these, if more photos are requested, not a problem. Thanks in advance!!!
- Mike.

Welcome to stamp community forum!

They all look genuine to me. Some are "cancelled to order" (c.t.o.)/not postally used, such as the Poland and Yemen stamps. C.t.o.'s are produced by countries to sell to beginning collectors and decoupage and collage hobbyists. Therefore, the c.t.o'.s are of minimum value, and are mostly avoided by serious collectors (philatelists).

They all look genuine to me , but, alas, of very little monetary value. They are the type of stamps typically seen in the packets of worldwide stamps that you used to see in stamp stores or even places like Woolworth's and would be something like 1,000 different stamps for $9.95 or even less, or in other words about a penny each and all these years later essentially have not increased in value. What they do have going for them is that they are attractive and might get your son interested in the history and geography that they represent. Good luck to him

Thank you both very much for the welcome and the really useful info! I'll explain things to my son and see what he thinks. Nice to know that at the very least they're genuine. Some of these places of course have changed their name completely, which is interesting to me as guy interested in both history and geography.
Happy Friday - Mike.

Hi Mike,

The last stamp you posted is from French Southern and Antarctic Territories.
It is part of the first set issued for the Territories in 1956.

(These are not my stamps.)

French area stamps are popular with many collectors because of the beauty of the engraving.

Could this be the start of a new hobby for you?

Also was a fan of the Penguin stamp. It's when the stamps don't look that good it's time to wonder.

Hello.
They look like parcel stamps to me, those 100 for 3$.
To know if a collection is interesting, you usually look at those before 1950, after that it is very rare that a stamp is worth something significant.
Regards.
