I have some of these orange kangaroos. I have a block of 48 with no watermark. A block of 10 with a watermark. A strip of 4 with no watermark and a block of 32 with no watermark. What should I be looking for to determine the year of if they're of any value. Thank you and I look forward to your help as I've got a lot of stamps and not sure where to start.
Hi JayGee
The half-penny roo without the watermark is from 1949-1966, the half-penny roo with the watermark is from 1938-1942.
You would need to buy the ACSC (Australian Commonwealth Specialists' Catalogue) to know what variety is scarce, rare etc., not all varieties have a commercial value.
Or you could post your stamps that you may think are of value and I will be able to assess whether or not the stamp has any value.
Also, with the half-penny roo, the stamp would need to be mint unhinged and with a well-centred border (with a rare stamp it will still remain rare if cancelled, the value though would be much less, and in the extremely rare case, rarer on cover).
On very rare stamps where it is difficult to impossible to obtain such a stamp in well-centred condition, the off-centred stamp has no impact on the value.
I have a block of 4 1938 roos with a very early plate crack, the only plate crack of it's type in existence and is extremely rare and of high commercial value.
With low value stamps it is not easy to find rare stamps.
