Scott 1452 - Stamp Colour Oddity.

I have been looking at this Scott 1452 Cristmas stamp for a couple of days now.

Either it is an oddity {Colour}..Or I am missing something.
If I am missing some thing that is normal. just ignore this post.

This Scott 1452 stamp has a PINK frame within the stamp..I have checked out Unitrade, LAC {Library and Archives Canada website} and spent 2 days on the internet and did not come across any thing that would explain why this stamp had a PINK frame...See pictures below.

At first I thought maybe soaked off a pink envelope..But nothing.

Peter may be correct. The tagging covering the four sides prevented the dye color from being absorbed or bleeding through? That might explain the clean border. Are the perf edges pink also?

Yes..The perfs have the pink colour also.

Yes Robert, I have encountered the same sort of thing with recent clippings from colored envelopes. No matter how hard you try to remove the stamp as quickly as the gum will release from paper, the envelopes bleed whatever color is on the paper, even the brown kraft envelopes are staining the stamps now.

I use salt in cool water to soak stamps off these kinds of envelopes, being careful to float the cut pieces with the stamps facing down into the water. Every 10 minutes or so of soaking, I'll try (very very) carefully to peel the stamps from the paper. Once the stamps are off, if there's any colour on them then a wash in warm water helps.

This method usually works for me.

Adding salt to the soak bath will result in salt being added to the paper fibers of the stamp. Salt is hygroscopic and will make your stamps attract moisture, something that you most certainly do not want. Salt is also abrasive and could cause paper damage if the stamp(s) were subjected to movement in a mount or against a page.

That said, you could remove the salt from the stamps if you were to add a second bath in fresh clean water. For safety, I would soak them very well, perhaps even a thord soak in fresh water.
