Seeking Information About Mauritius Post Paid Forgery By Sperati

Hello folks,

I sent this Mauritius worn "Post Paid" with a 2020 RPS certificate for inclusion in David Feldman's recent auction. The day before the sale, they e-mailed me to say that a collector identified it as a Sperati forgery. By an amazing coincidence, the proof sheet signed by Sperati is also being auctioned this month in Germany, and someone spotted the likeness.



There is another copy, with a distinctive curved right margin, illustrated in Mr Kanai's book, making 3 known at present. They all have the same flaws - an incorrect diagonal line of colour across the P of POST, and erosion of the inside vertical frame-line in front of the queen's face.



I have failed to find any more via a Google search. Does anyone own, or know about, any other copies? Thanks for any help.

Yes, it was me who sent Richard details about the two copies, which he has now added to his Mauritius webpage. Previously it only mentioned the "unique" proof sheet - this is the same item being auctioned in Germany. He also confirmed that a cropped version of this proof is the illustration in the 1955 BPA book about Sperati. Therefore, only the 3 copies known so far.
