Engraved Stamps - Take 2

Why did they remove the engraver? Lack of space?
The artist is just as important as the stamp itself.

Did they remove the printer also?

Guys got an example of the women series?

Andrew, in my 2005/2006 Michel Deutschland the designers and
printers are still listed but no engravers.

In my 2004/2005 Michel Nord & Nordwesteuropa there are no
designers,engravers nor printers listed.
After buying this volume and finding out that it lacked this
info I was pixxed off since that's the information I
was looking for.

My old 1968 Michel Europe listed designers, engravers and printers.

I guess it's a matter of saving space or maybe they figure that
most collectors are not interested in this information anyway
so why bother.

6 is already quite a few stamps. How many in the whole series?

Portugal did 2 sets back in the 1970s, one with Monuments and Sceneries, and another with traditional work instruments, also very numerous.

I can't remember how many they were.

About the catalogues, a shame they ignore the men/women behind the stamps. But I guess a catalogue's main purpose for many is a simple list (with a picture or 2) with prices. I, too, prefer a catalogue with information and background on stamps.

From the last issue, it seems it has probably ended? Maybe LG can shed some light on that topic with his recent Michel catalogues.

A long (time) definitive (commemorative?) set.

I'm a bit ashamed I cannot recognize any of those names!

According to Michel the Women in German History definitive series was issued between
November 1986 and January 2003.

West Germany issued 39
Berlin issued 17

The interesting fact about Kanior is that his career had similarities with Slania's.
Jacex (Jakob) Kanior was born in Torun Poland in 1952
Was employed by the Polish State Printer between 1977 - 1981 engraving stamps & banknotes
Emigrated to Germany in 1981
Was employed by the Bundesdruckerei (German State Printer) between 1983 - 2003

Perhaps someone can show some Polish stamps engraved by Kanior

I know many names will not be familiar outside of Germany but the 1DM10 1997 issue featured Marlene Dietrich who was a Hollywood actress.

Swedish booklet issued in 1982, which shows Slania in his prime.

I remember collecting stamps as a kid, and looking at George VI's portrait on some old pieces I had and being fascinated by how the artist could create such a realistic image from a few well placed lines. Certainly one of the reasons I went to art school, and have returned to stamp collecting after all these years.
The images on this post (and I haven't been able to make it through nearly all of them) simply take my breath away, just like George did way back when.
