Normally I don't specialise with stamps, but the only catalogue I have at the moment is an old 1970 SG European and Colonies catalogue.
It list four colour options for this stamp and I don't have a colour gauge. I was wondering what colour you guys would say this is(the colour on the screen looks very close to what the stamp looks like).
I'm leaning towards Dull Blue.
These are the choices..
Prussian Blue, Dull Blue, Ultramarine or Pale Ultramarine.

Also if you can help with a SG number and current SG value.
In the old book it was SG94 - SG96, but sometimes they change.

Thanks

Steve

This is bothersome. I don't see any blue at all here, more of a lilac-brown. I've gone back and looked at some other posts and colors seem to be pretty close on those. What's up?

Hi All

They say that colour is in the eyes of the beholder and I guess that includes me too.

In my own humble opinion, I would say that the colour of the stamp from Wurttemberg you have scanned is a dull ultramarine.

Having said that, I can also state that scanners in general can at times not show up the true colour of images anyway :(

Colour gauges, at best, are again, in the eyes of the beholder and it is extremely difficult to get several people to agree on one colour

Hope this helps.

Thank you guys.

SG95 is Ultramarine and Bujutsu says Dull Utramarine which is SG96.
So I am still confused.

I know it's hard to match colours on the computer.
On my screen it looks pretty close to the real colour, but on other peoples computers it could look totally different.

It is Michel # 47a pale gray turquoise-clay tone(hellgrauturkis, Viele Tone) issued 1875-1902. This # also carries a substantial premium for Heavy "Carton" paper.

This stamp comes in 4 major recognised colors and at least a dozen sub-colors. This is a sub-color of Mi #47a. It was re-printed MANY, MANY times over 25+ years. Some of these printings used very unstable pigments.

If you don't know what Carton paper is, than it is not. It is very Similar to a thin Cardboard or Index card paper, In other words quite rigid.

Thanks for the offer Revstampman, I do have two others in that series, but they were readily identifiable.
