Does anyone have a list of New Zealand local delivery stamps or album pages for them? They are not listed in Scott, and I have several stock pages from muliple companies with no place to put them in my album.

Hi Bill, by "Local Post" do you mean alternative post? You may try to contact I had his email address as David Sanders: ohas(at)xtra.co.nz Author : "Stamp Mogul" No catalogue exists, that I have seen, Davis Sanders has pages made of the stamps he has seen and given. I'll be dropping him a line... |

Nice work Rod!
So much has changed (mergers, dissolutions, etc,) over the past 15 years in this area that it would take a true "labor of love" for someone to describe and catalog all of it. |

Spot on Bob, I read where one fellow gave up, took him away from his family too much.

Thanks, Rod, for pointing me in the right direction. I didn't realize that there were so many stamps for each local company. I guess they are aiming at collectors to supplement their postal income. Unfortunately the listings don't seem to be up to date. I think I will try to use the information that is there to print up album pages for the stamps I have during those years. |

Bill, if you are really keen, I would direct you to the CAPTAIN COQK Philatelic society, in Christchurch. What appears to be a fabulous Stamp Club, I have a lot of their monographs. All details here for contact. https://www.cps.gen.nz/files/CCoqk_1707.pdfThey may have up to date info on catalogues , album pages, if so, let us know. |

Here's the answer I got from the secretary of the Christchurch Philatelic Society:
Hi Bill,
Thanks for your enquiry re New Zealand local stamps.
To the best of my knowledge, there is no complete comprehensive catalogue of this material. Sometime ago there was a collector who started compiling a loose leaf format catalogue however he passed away about 18 months ago. He did a very limited run of less than five copies, probably over ten years ago. I don't know the extent of the material he included or even if it included all that had been produced up until he produced the catalogue. I get the impression quite a number of the alternative mail providers didn't have any idea of the philatelic aspect of what they were producing so would have only advertised their service locally. I recall going through a small town called Paeroa (around the Coromandal peninsular) around 1999 and there was someone offering an alternative mail service just for local delivery. An undenominated rubber postmark style marking was used to show payment and no stamps were produced. Many of these local services were short lived ventures.
I have CCed this email to Tony Ward in Australia. He has produced a catalogue of the NZ Post CAL labels and probably has an interest in NZ alternative mail providers in general.
Regards,
Stephen Jones |
