Can anyone confirm that this is a fancy crown cancel? I don't have Lacelle's book (yet) - perhaps it is listed in there?

Chris

Hi John, thanks. I don't believe these are registered "R" cancels - are unlike any others, and the dots inside the cancel seem strange. Chris

The stamp on the left shows ends to both legs.

Question : If an "R" why the point in the top right corner of the left stamp. It looks to be a point in the centre of a crown.

To assist us, whom want to learn, what does a "Fancy Crown" Pmk look like?
May we see an image please.

2. I have no record in my collection of an Registration "R" that is not enclosed in a circle.

Anyone have an "R" without a circle image please?

Can be nothing like the Ottawa

Hello Rod222. The size and shape of the crown seemed to resemble the fancy cancels I have seen in the BNAPS study group. Dave Lacelle has listed hundreds of fancies (you likely already know this). I do not have an image, the premise I am proposing is that there may be a fancy cork of this type.

I still don't believe this is a registration R.

Chris

Thanks Chris,
we shall await your catalogue, hope you resolve.

I had a bo-peep in Lacelle, and a cursory glance showed nothing.
(Unsure if my Lacelle is complete)

Here is a few images
Note: Lacelle shows an error in "oval" R registration, that is a really a circle.

John Becker is correct, one of the larger Registered "R"'s without surrounding oval. One often sees extra ink between the lower legs of the R.

Fascinating - thanks for the advice, everyone.

This seems to be an R (registered) cancel. Does anyone have a literature reference, catalogue number?

Chris

Hi Robert - is the number under the image you provide the Lacelle number? Chris

I believe so Lars714.
You might want to contact BNAPS to see what they say.
Just an idea.

Robert

I would have thought an image lifted from an auction catalogue.
