I hope is that this topic will filled with information on the usage of the Herald and Weekly Times semi-official issues used between 1920 and 1922. To start the topic off, my Airmail collection has recently acquired this cover. I believe it to be one of the Herald and Weekly Times emergency air service from Melbourne to Tararlgon. The date cancel could indicate the it is a first day issue. I believe the rate at that time was 1-1/2d, so the postage applied seems reasonable. There are no markings on the reverse of the envelope. I would appreciate any other comments or observations. Also, does anyone have an idea what this cover could bring at sale or auction? Thank you very much for your help.

A wild guess, let's see what the specialists advise. $750 - $2,000 One of 26 covers? A lovely piece, Barhata. Another guess: Bidders may have concerns with the apparent overwriting of the addressee and address. Looks a tad uncomfortable. differing inks etc Update: Prestige Philatelics (Unknown date) Estimate $1,000 Realised $750 |

I much appreciate the Airmail Catalog information that you shared. The 10 Aug 1920 flight issue information on the opposing page is a bonus to me. I am also looking for information on the Sep-Dec 1920 PALS advertising campaign issue. Additionally, the 17 Apr 1922 Geelong-Melbourne issue which was sponsored by the Melbourne Herald. If that catalog has further information on those issues, I would appreciate it very much. |

I have scans of the Pals, I'll look into my database. all will not be my scans, I have been outbid on every Pals stamp that has come up in my area.
I cannot recall Pals being listed in Hornadge's Cinderella Catalogue.

Bill Hornadge, the fellow whom gave me encouragement, to collect those funny bits of paper, that did not pre pay postage. I have witnessed muffled sniggers when I was buying them 15-20 years ago. They are not sniggering now, I'll warrant. ebay 2017 |

Barhata,
You are correct that the first weight step letter postage was 1˝d on 30 July, 1920.
From 28 October, 1918 until October, 1920, a ˝d war tax was added to the previous 1d postage rate. In October 1920 the war tax was removed and postage doubled from 1d to 2d.
